Shaker Egg songs!

Wondering what to do with those plastic eggs after the holiday is over? Why don't you make some of your very own instruments! Put uncooked rice and/or macaroni in an egg, tape them up so they don't "pop open", and shake away! Here are some of our favorite songs to sing with our shaker eggs. Shake your eggs and follow the action words in the song!

Pop, pop, pop
pour the corn into the pot
pop, pop, pop
shake it while it's hot
pop, pop, pop
what do we got?
Popcorn!

We're going to Kentucky
we're going to the fair
to see a senorita
with flowers in her hair
shake it baby shake it
shake it while you can
shake it like a milkshake
and pour it in a can
shake it to the bottom
shake it to the top
shake it round and round
Until I tell you stop!

Teen Read Week- October 15-21

The 2006 theme for Teen Read Week is Get Active @ Your Library....and that's just what we are going to do!

On October 17 at 6:00pm, yoga instructor Jennifer Beaumont will be leading a free yoga class for teens at the Wyoming Library.

Jennifer began her study of yoga, the ancient art of self-discipline, in her teenage years. Now after over seven years of dedicated practice and study, she teaches classes to adults and teenagers. Yoga helps teens learn healthy habits, develope self-control, and generally improve their overall health and mental/emtional balance.

We are excited that Jennifer is coming and hope that many of you join her fun and informative class.

Also for Teen Read Week, we will be having another very popular night of Dance Dance Revolution (DDR). Our last DDR party in August was A LOT of fun, so we hope to see you there. It will be held on October 16 at 6:00pm.

Fun Fall Family Activities

For some fall family fun, try out the following:

  • Read Apples, Apples, Apples by Nancy Wallace, and then create your own apple prints. To make an apple print, cut an apple in half with a horizontal cut. There should be a visible star shape around the seeds. Remove the seeds. Press the apple into some paint and stamp onto paper.

  • Read Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, and then try a fun leaf activity. Create a leaf rubbing by placing leaves underneath a paper. Rub a crayon across the paper and watch the leaf appear beneath. Make your own leaf man by gathering leaves, arranging them, then gluing them to a paper. Create a leaf mosaic by placing leaves on a sheet of wax paper and adding some crayon shavings. Place another wax paper sheet on top and place the pieces of wax paper between a section of newspaper. Then use a warm iron to melt the crayon and wax paper.

  • Head on in to the library and pick up a tree identification guide. Gather some leaves and see if your family can identify them.

Don't forget to check out fun fall programs at the library!
